Prof. Anthony P. McHale

Anthony received a B.Sc. degree (1978) and Ph.D. (1981), both in Biochemistry, from University College Galway (currently Ollscoil na Gaillimhe) and subsequently accepted a post as a postdoctoral research fellow in Cell Biology at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Tx., USA. He returned to Ireland in 1985 to take up a post as lecturer at Trinity College Dublin. In 1992, he joined Ulster University, where he is currently Prof. of Medical Biotechnology. In addition, he holds an honorary professorship within the Division of Surgery and Interventional Science at University College London. Anthony’s research interests primarily include stimulus responsive drug/gene delivery systems for applications in oncology and tissue regeneration. He is currently a founding director and CTO with SonoTarg Ltd., a company exploiting an ultrasound-responsive microbubble platform for the treatment of solid tumours. He is also a founding director and CSO with StimOxyGen Ltd, a company exploiting an oxygen-generating nanoparticle formulation that addresses the challenges presented by hypoxia in treating solid tumours.
