Dr Caroline Conway

Dr Caroline Conway obtained her BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences and Master of Research from Ulster University. She was awarded a four-year CRUK PhD studentship with Professor Julia Newton-Bishop and Professor Tim Bishop at The University of Leeds, investigating genetic markers of prognosis in melanoma using novel highthroughput methods and graduating with a PhD in molecular biology in 2009.

She then undertook a four-year Yorkshire Cancer Research funded postdoctoral position in the lab of Professor Pamela Rabbitts at the University of Leeds working on the identification of genetic alterations associated with progression of pre-cancer in head and neck cancer. She was involved in the development of novel next-generation sequencing (NGS) methods for genetic characterisation of cancer and identified novel mechanisms of disease initiation and progression in head and neck cancer.

Currently, she is a Scientific Assistant in Genomics at Ulster University where her research focus is still on novel applications of NGS, particularly in the area of early diagnosis of head and neck and cervical cancer. At Ulster, she is also involved in projects using CRISPR technology for experimental and therapeutic applications and has implemented a key method for whole-genome CRISPR off-target analysis.
