Dr Alex Eustace
Senior Council Member
Dr Alex Eustace is the current Honorary Secretary of the Irish Association for Cancer Research. Dr Eustace is an Assistant Professor at Dublin City University and a Principal Investigator in the National Institute for Cellular Biotechnology. Dr Eustace is also an award-winning translational oncology scientist who is a previous winner of the St Luke’s/ Royal Academy of Medicine Young Investigator award.
Dr Eustace’s lab primarily focuses on identifying and understanding the functional role of genetic vulnerabilities in cancer cells, which can then be exploited as novel treatment options for people who suffer with cancer. His research has directly led to the initiation of early phase clinical trials in both melanoma patients and women with HER2-positive breast cancer in Ireland.
Dr Eustace has extensively researched the role of the PI3K/AKT signalling pathway and how it plays a role in making certain cancers more aggressive and harder to treat. His lab aims to understand and exploit genetic alterations in this pathway to provide more specific treatments to treat these cancer patients.
