Sarah Maguire
Lecturer in Applied Genomics and Bioinformatics, Patrick G. Johnston Centre for Cancer Research (PGJCCR) at QUB
Dr. Sarah Maguire is a lecturer in genomics and bioinformatics at the Patrick G. Johnston Centre for Cancer Research (PGJCCR) at Queen’s University Belfast. She holds a PhD from University College Dublin and completed her postdoctoral research at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR). Her research focuses on understanding how genetic changes contribute to cancer. She studies both inherited and acquired mutations, particularly in non-coding regions of the genome, to determine their role in cancer development. By analyzing large genetic datasets and tumour samples, she aims to uncover how these changes influence prostate and breast cancer. She also investigates hidden gene activity in colorectal cancer and acute myeloid leukaemia, exploring how these processes generate unique markers that could be targeted for treatment. Sarah collaborates with other researchers at QUB and the biotech company AilseBio to translate these findings into potential new therapies.
