Lorna Donlon
Textile Artist, UCD Conway Institute
Lorna Donlon is a textile artist living in Dublin. She also has a degree in Cell and Molecular Biology and is enjoying exploring ways of combining these two disciplines. She is currently working on a project with UCD Conway Institute.
Funded by Science Foundation Ireland Discover, during ten Get Togethers in 2024, as part of Cut From The Same Cloth, researchers from UCD Conway Institute of Biomedical and Biomolecular Research met with women from minority communities across Ireland to facilitate the building of lasting relationships. The goal is to facilitate future integration of minority voices in UCD Conway’s Patient Voice in Health Research Initiative. Standing on common ground, the role of fabric and cloth in our lives was the focus of stories exchanged at these Get Togethers. Researchers had the honour of hearing inspiring stories from all the amazing women they met and the women saw the patterns and colours of biomedical research printed on fabric and heard about the research behind the patterns. A large tapestry that documents all the women in this unique community will be part of an exhibition, Cut From The Same Cloth, touring venues across Ireland in 2025.
